Joshua and L'Tanya Haire share a moment together at their home in
Fayetteville, NC. The Haire's were recently recognized as the 2004
National Parents of the Year by the National Parents' Day Council, a
project of the nonprofit American Family Coalition. The couple was also
named North Carolina 2004 Parents of the Year by the state. Joshua,
pastor of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Southern Pines, and
L'Tanya, a social worker, have six living biological children, one
adopted child and act as parents to three young mothers through
"spiritually covenant adoptions." Two of their biological children are
deceased. Joshua says that there is no secret to what they do. "We're
Christians. We're saved. You make a decision to have children and to
raise them the best you can," (reports the Fayetteville Observer).
